Believe It or Not, Body Fat Can Be a Blessing

body fat can be a blessing

I bet when you count your blessings you don’t think “wow, my body fat is such a blessing!”  And for sure, I am not going to say that excess fat is what you want. I am saying that body fat can be a blessing – and that counting your blessings is key to any transformational process.

Body fat is a brilliant, biological and evolutionary component that has been key to our very survival as a species.  It stores energy, insulates us, and protects our vital organs. Additionally, as modern humans, body fat can be a blessing because it gives us a point of awareness and therefore can help move us closer to body acceptance.   (more…)

Client Spotlight: The Koch Family

“Body by G is a constant in our household.  A place where my family has become part of a close-knit community.  Giulia has guided my children in developing and achieving their goals, not only for their respective sports but more importantly in their everyday life choices.  G’s coaching provides them with the information they need to promote endurance, build muscle, view food as fuel, and know that leading a healthy life begins way before adulthood.   It takes a village to raise a family and we are fortunate to have Giulia living in ours.” – Elizabeth Koch on behalf of the Koch family. The Last Fitness Regimen You Will Ever Need

the-last-fitness-regimen-youll-ever-need

The last fitness regimen you will ever need is not about doing the same thing every day until you die.  In fact, the last fitness regimen you will ever need is not a training program—it is a lifestyle.

When you learn how to create lasting changes in small daily habits, you have found the last fitness regimen you will ever need. Habits create rhythm and routine and are two key components of the last fitness regimen you will ever need.

As my client Mike says, “The secret to your future is hidden in your daily routine.” (more…)

Client Spotlight: W.A.

I’ve just returned to training with Coach G after taking a three-year break during which I had a baby. I was working with her for about a year before that. I couldn’t be happier to be back. I never thought that I’d be working out consistently, much less with personal training and advice. But it is not an exaggeration to say that training with Coach G has had a huge positive impact on my physical and mental health. (more…)

Client Spotlight: Alice Flinn Campbell

“Coaching By G is a private owned fitness studio located in Oak Park, Illinois. The owner, Giulia Isetti, is not reluctant to let you know the truth. Honesty and truth are extremely important. As humans we have to believe and accept what is true but also what is false. Aristotle once said, “To say of what is, or of what is not that it is not, is true.” More lightly put, the world provides two things, what is and what’s not. Thus the truth and falsity. I believe this quote is embedded in her personality and this makes her an even better fitness coach.

Giulia Isetti’s studio is a combination of blue and orange colors as well as a combination of clients from the age of 10 to 83. Her clients are all different types of athletes. Rowers, hockey players, volleyball players, swimmers, runners, soccer players, baseball players, basketball players, field hockey players, and people just looking to strengthen their bodies. These clients provide a sense of community and kindness. Her dogs also help to provide these ideals. Her two dogs, Roadie and Lili accompany Giulia to work. They greet you with a friendly smile and tail wags as you walk through the door and they defend the studio from squirrels and other riff-raff at all costs.  (more…)

Client Spotlight: William Godellas

I’m William Godellas, a 14 year old baseball player who struggles with engaging in a lot of things. I started working with Giulia a little over a year now, and I have no words to describe how life-changing her program has been for me.

The original reason I started at Coaching by G was to gain weight. I came in for my consultation at age 13, 5’0 and 80 pounds. Gaining weight had been hard for me as I never had an appetite and had always been a picky eater. Flash forward a year, and I am 5’9, 125 pounds. Her personalized workout plans and dietary help has been outstanding for me. Not only has her program helped me physically, however, it has also done so much for me mentally.

When school got tough, with studying habits and sleep, Giulia was always there to guide me and help me succeed. I know that if I were to ever need advice for anything, Giulia would always be there for me. Not only her, but the community that she has developed inside her studio. You cannot always pick and choose your clients, but Giulia’s clients all feel like family. (more…)

Why Coaching?

Tiarra-McGee

Why Coaching? I (Coach Tia) get this question a lot from family members and friends. I first fell in love with fitness and sport at a young age. The second I figured out I was a fast runner, I always wanted to race people every chance I got! My best friend knew this about me and when we got to high school she pushed me to join the track team. That was all I needed to do to know that fitness and sport would be a part of my life forever. My love for running track took me to college, which was a big game changer, especially the first time I stepped foot in a weight room. Seeing movements such as jerk, power clean, dead lift and snatch had me terrified and uncomfortable. I had never picked up a bar before and was scared at the thought of performing the exercises I saw performed so well by the upperclassmen. Although I was scared out of my mind, I pushed myself outside of my comfort zone, stuck with the training, and slowly but surely got better at performing the lifts. As I got comfortable in the weight room, I knew I wanted to be around this environment for the long run. (more…)

Key Practices to Develop Mental Toughness Training for Athletes

key-practices-develop-mental-toughness-training-athletes

Mental toughness training for athletes is a topic that comes up frequently. Athletes and parents of athletes are interested to know what can be done to improve focus, attitude, and ultimately, results.  So often a person comes to me for a training plan with goals for changing their body-get more muscle, lose fat, get stronger, faster, and so on – and the first thing I ask them is “How is your sleep?” and “Do you have a mindfulness practice?”  There is no training plan that will get you any of the above if you are not sleeping 8-9 hours every night, making room to listen to yourself and eating healthy food that you cook yourself. Client Spotlight: Mari Wolkstein

mari-walkstein

Mari Wolkstein is a competitive hockey defensewoman. She is small but mighty.  It has been so much fun to watch this young athlete develop physically and emotionally. Mari has grit. She is determined with a deep sense of purpose.  She is an athlete who needs no external motivation, because her engine is fired deep within. That level of motivation, a strong inner force that causes behavior, is a rare quality in anyone – but especially someone of Mari’s age. Her athletic achievements are astounding. She is not only training with Coaching by G 4-6 days a week, but playing hockey as much, traveling to tournaments, a rockstar in the classroom, an avid reader, guitar player, and much more.  Mari is an example to everyone in the gym: she is not waiting for her life to happen, she is actively engaged in designing the life she wants. (Are you struggling with designing the life you want, specifically when it comes to diet? Here’s a whole bunch of nutritional know-how to help you harness the power of your biochemistry.) (more…)
