I appreciate Thanksgiving, simply as a day to remember gratitude—always good as a concept, but even better as a practice. Gratitude as a daily practice is mind-expanding and heart-expanding, and research has shown that subjects who practiced daily gratitude had higher rates of cancer recovery than those who didn’t. But sometimes it’s hard to be grateful because it’s unseasonably cold, or because my hair doesn’t look right, or because I’m running late, or all three on the same day, plus… sometimes bad things happen, like divorces and car crashes. “From the age of 12 and into college I considered myself serious about ballet. I took advanced classes, performed, and taught ballet during college. Then my life went another direction (marriage, jobs, different locations) and sadly, dance was no longer a part of it—90 mph to zero very quickly. But my love for ballet never left me. (more…)

Believe It or Not, Body Fat Can Be a Blessing
I bet when you count your blessings you don’t think “wow, my body fat is such a blessing!” And for sure, I am not going to say that excess fat is what you want. I am saying that body fat can be a blessing – and that counting your blessings is key to any transformational process.
Body fat is a brilliant, biological and evolutionary component that has been key to our very survival as a species. It stores energy, insulates us, and protects our vital organs. Additionally, as modern humans, body fat can be a blessing because it gives us a point of awareness and therefore can help move us closer to body acceptance. (more…)
